2008 CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS AND
UPDATES
OKEMOS ROAD ENHANCEMENT – HERITAGE AVE. to MT. HOPE
RD. - roadside enhancements.
STP Enhancement funding. The original enhancement application was submitted October 2004 on behalf of Meridian Township. The Ingham County Road Commission is sponsoring the federal Transportation Enhancement grant for the Township because the Township is not eligible to receive the grant money directly. The money needs to go through an eligible transportation agency per Public Act 51 of 1951. An amendment to the enhancement grant to modify the scope of work and ask for more funding was submitted in January 2007. At this point, the proposed enhancements no longer involve installation of a median. They are limited to roadside landscaping including trees, perennials, irrigation, decorative pavement, and lighting. The revised scope and additional money was approved April 17, 2007. We anticipate a late-summer bid letting with the work to be completed in November 2008.
BARNES
ROAD - AURELIUS ROAD to COLLEGE ROAD

STP Rural funding. When finished, the project will complete the Ingham County Road Commission’s southwest non-motorized paved shoulder loop. The project involves a hill cut to improve sight lines at the intersection of Barnes Road and Edgar Road, culvert replacement, installation of asphalt shoulder base, and resurfacing of the entire road. The roadway will look just like Aurelius Road north of Barnes Road. We anticipate a June bid letting with the work to be completed in November 2008.
WILLIAMSTON
ROAD - CITY LIMITS to HASLETT ROAD
- install paved shoulder and resurface
City of Williamston limits to Sherwood: STP Small Urban funding. Sherwood to Haslett: STP Rural funding. When finished, the project will complete the Ingham County Road Commission’s northern non-motorized paved shoulder loop. The project involves cold-in-place recycling of the existing asphalt roadway, culvert replacement, installation of hot mix asphalt over the recycled base, including a paved shoulder. The roadway will look just like Haslett Road west of Williamston Road. We anticipate a July or August bid letting with the work to be completed in late 2008 or possibly an early- spring start with a mid-summer 2009 completion.
HASLETT
ROAD @ OKEMOS ROAD - intersection
improvement
Federal Congestion Mitigation & Air Quality funding. The project involves installation of dedicated center left turn lanes on Haslett Road, a right turn lane on north bound Okemos Road, signal improvements, watermain work, sidewalk relocation, and optimization of the signal timing. We anticipate a June bid letting with the work to be completed in November 2008.
CEDAR STREET - DALLAS AVENUE to HOLBROOK DRIVE - reconstruct with roundabout
Funding provided by the Delhi Township DDA. The project has been in the planning and plan preparation stage since 1999. The 2008 work is phase one of a three-phase project to reconstruct Cedar Street from Dallas Avenue to College Road. The project involves removal of the old concrete roadway, installation of a four lane divided highway with curb & gutter, indirect left turns, new storm sewer, and a modern roundabout at Holbrook Drive. The road reconstruction needs to be coordinated with the Holt Road closure for the Township sanitary sewer project scheduled for May and June. Cedar Street will be an alternate route for the Holt Road traffic when Holt Road is closed for sewer construction. And Holt Road will be an alternate route for the Cedar Street project when construction begins. Traffic will be maintained on Cedar Street while the road reconstruction project is underway. We anticipate a June bid letting with the work starting in mid-July and completed in November 2008.
DELHI TOWNSHIP PATHWAY - HOLT ROAD to KELLER ROAD - off-road pathway
Federal Congestion Mitigation & Air Quality funding. The Ingham County Road Commission is sponsoring the federal Transportation CMAQ grant for the Township because the Township is not eligible to receive the grant money directly. The money needs to go through an eligible transportation agency per Public Act 51 of 1951. The project involves installation of a cross-country pathway from Holt Road, just east of Depot Street, to the intersection of Keller Road and Delhi N.E. Street, through Valhalla Park and Maple Ridge Cemetery, to Willoughby Road. We anticipate an August or September bid letting with the work to be completed in late 2008 or possibly an early- spring start with a mid-summer 2009 completion.
