Listed below are the upcoming road
projects that the Road Commission has scheduled to be completed for the 2010
construction season (please note that the start/completion dates are
unofficial estimates regarding the project schedules):
1.
Waverly Road – St. Joseph Street to Barton Street: Road resurfacing to be performed
at the intersection Waverly Road and St. Joseph Street, along with miscellaneous
work to complete this 2009 project.
Lansing Charter Township. Federal
Urban STP funding, Final Phase Cost: $600,000.
Start date: Mid-May. Completion
Date: Mid-June.

Waverly Road – Barton Road to Grand River Avenue: Bridge repair, deck resurfacing,
and roadway resurfacing work to be performed.
Federal Stimulus, and Economic Development Category F funding. Estimated cost: $1,275,000. Start date: Mid-May. Completion Date: Mid-September. This project will involve a full closure for
the bridge deck resurfacing. Starting
July 6, Waverly Road will be closed north of Willow Street in order to complete
the planned deck and superstructure repairs on the bridge over the Grand River. A detour for through traffic will be posted
on Willow Street, Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and BR-96 (Grand River
Avenue). Alternate routes are I-96 to
Grand River Avenue (BR-96), and also Larch Street (BR-US-27) to North Street. Local access will be maintained at all times. ICRC anticipates reopening the Waverly Bridge
to through traffic the week of August 9th. Single lane closures will continue through
mid-September to complete road and bridge construction.

Waverly Road – Columbia Road to Pleasant River Drive: Bridge
repairs, deck resurfacing, and roadway resurfacing work to be performed. Aurelius Township and Delhi Charter
Township. Federal Rural STP
Funding. Estimated cost: $1.05 million. Start date: Road construction and detour is
anticipated to commence the week of August 2nd. Completion Date: Late-October. A detour for through traffic will be posted
on Columbia, Onondaga, and Holt Roads.
Local access will be maintained at all times.

Waverly
Road - Grand River bridge to Lansing
Road: Concrete pavement repair on Waverly Road, along with intersection
improvements at Old Lansing Road. One lane of traffic in each direction
will be maintained during construction. Utility repairs are scheduled to
coincide with project construction, which may result in the closure of Old
Lansing Road at the Waverly Road intersection. Estimated project cost is
$500,000. Funding is Federal Urban Surface Transportation Program
(STP). This project is scheduled to bid
in the September 3, 2010 MDOT letting. Project construction is
anticipated to begin April 2011, with completion by early July,
2011, however, the successful low bid contractor will have the option to
accelerate the project schedule to perform the work starting October 2010.
5. Mt. Hope Road – Farm Lane to Okemos Road: Road reconstruction and drain crossing
replacement to be performed. Meridian
Charter Township. Federal Urban STP
funding. Estimated Cost: $1.5 million. Work on Mt. Hope Road is anticipated to
start the week of Aug 30. Work will
begin between Hagadorn Road and Comanche Drive. We expect that
the first week of construction work on Mt. Hope Road will be conducted under
lane closures only. Motorists should anticipate full closure of Mt. Hope
Road both east and west of Hagadorn Road starting Tuesday September 7. After
September 7, Mt. Hope Road between Hagadorn and Comanche drive will be
closed to thru traffic during construction. The road will be impassible at the
Herron Creek Drain, approx 1500 ft east of Hagadorn (Between Herron Drive and
Hawthorne Lane). Montessori School traffic will need to approach from the
east (Okemos Road) during this period. We anticipate that this section will be closed
until mid October. Mt.
Hope Road between Farm Lane and Hagadorn Road will be closed to all
traffic from 9/7 to 9/17, and should be open w/ 4 lanes by the
9/18 MSU home football game. Much of the remaining work between Comanche and Okemos
Road, will be performed under lane closures or in conjunction with the above
closures. Hagadorn
Road will be fully open to traffic through the Mt. Hope Road intersection
during all construction phases; only exception will be for short
duration lane shifts for top course paving through the intersection near
the project completion. We anticipate that Mt. Hope Road will
be re-opened to thru traffic by late October, with top course paving,
sidewalk, and turf restoration to be completed with lane closures; Project
completion by mid-late November.
6.
Dobie Road Bridge –
Over the Red Cedar River: Bridge
replacement project. Meridian Charter
Township. Federal and state Local Bridge
Program funding. Estimated Cost:
$1,570,000. Start date: Mid-June. Completion Date: Mid-October. Detour will be Jolly Road, Okemos Road, and
M-43 (Grand River Avenue).
